French Language Services

Both partners are graduates of the French Language Program of the Faculty of Common Law at the University of Ottawa.  Over the years, we have practiced law principally in the French language and our client base is mainly comprised of francophones.  That being said, all of our team members are fluently bilingual in both official languages and can offer quality services in English as well.

F. Anne Sheppard

Founding Partner of Sheppard & Claude

Anne Sheppard is a founding partner of the firm.  She was called to the Ontario Bar in 1995.  Anne received her Bachelor of Law (Common Law – programme national en français) in 1986 and her Bachelor of Civil Law in 1985, as well as a Bachelor of Administration (operational research), all from the University of Ottawa.  Anne is perfectly bilingual and practices in both official languages.

Anne’s practice is focused in the areas of education law (elementary and secondary), legislation interpretation, governance and policy drafting and access to information.  She also practices in the areas of administrative law, business law and civil litigation.

J.N. André Claude

Founding Partner of Sheppard & Claude

A founding partner of Sheppard & Claude, André received his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Ottawa in 1982 and his Bachelor of Common Law (French-Language Program) in 1985.  He was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1987.  André is perfectly bilingual and practices in both official languages.

André provides legal advice and services to clients in a wide variety of business activities, including the areas of corporate and commercial, debtor-creditor, construction, procurement and real estate. He also has extensive experience in civil litigation.

Jean-François Gauthier

P.Eng., J.D.

Jean-François has been practicing law since his call to the Bar of Upper-Canada in June 2015. Jean-François joined the team at Sheppard & Claude following his articles which were completed at the firm. He contributes, manages and develops the firm’s files which touch on construction law, business law, commercial law, education law and all civil and administrative litigation linked to these areas of practice. Given Jean-François’ background, he has a particular interest in construction law and procurement law.

Jean-François is an accredited Professional Engineer registered with the Professional Engineers of Ontario. He obtained this permit following varied work experiences both in the public and private sector, from site inspections in the field to in office structural design work. Among others, he was a member of an inspection team conducting on-going inspection work on the Honoré-Mercier Bridge in Montreal for a period of over 18 months.

Jean-François is a graduate of the University of Ottawa. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in applied sciences (civil engineering) with concentration in structures and geotechnics in 2009.  He then obtained his Juris Doctor from the French Common Law program in 2014. Both these degrees were conferred with Cum Laude honors.

Jean-François is fluently bilingual in English and in French, and offers all his services in both these languages.
